The Southern Nevada Affiliate is a trusted local resource for women living with breast cancer, and encourages all women and men to be familiar with their own bodies and know their family medical history, understand their personal risk for breast cancer and make healthy lifestyle choices that may reduce their risk of breast cancer. During the last 15 years, the Southern Nevada Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, one of 127 world-wide affiliates, has granted over $4 million dollars to fund a variety of necessary local breast cancer programs in its four county service area: Clark, Lincoln, Nye and Esmeralda.
Up to 75 percent of funds raised remain in the local community to support breast health education, treatment, and screening. At least 25 percent of net proceeds from funds raised are donated to the Komen for the Cure Foundation Research & Awards Program.
Uninsured and underinsured women received low-cost or no-cost breast exams, mammograms, ultrasounds along with free educational information on breast health care.Additionally, the Southern Nevada Affiliate began funding more treatment options helping women with surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation.
